TerraFoam is an innovative and sustainable packaging material designed to replace Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam in the e-commerce industry. Conventional EPS is non-biodegradable, contributes to long-term environmental pollution, and contains petroleum-derived styrene, a potentially harmful chemical. TerraFoam is made from natural coconut fibres and a biodegradable starch-based binder, creating a durable, eco-friendly alternative. Its unique feature is the incorporation of dormant plant seeds within the material, allowing it to biodegrade naturally while supporting plant growth after disposal. Instead of becoming landfill waste, TerraFoam transforms into a nutrient-rich medium that promotes ecological restoration. Initial prototype testing shows that the material provides sufficient strength for packaging while decomposing efficiently in soil. This innovation supports the principles of a circular economy by converting agricultural waste into a valuable resource and reducing plastic pollution. TerraFoam offers a practical, environmentally responsible solution for sustainable packaging and contributes to a greener, more regenerative future.
