PN914: GUARDIAN AIR IOT CARBON MONOXIDE EARLY WARNING SYSTEM FOR CHILD SAFETY

GuardianAir is an Internet of Things (IoT)-based Carbon Monoxide (CO) Early Warning System designed to enhance child safety inside enclosed vehicles. Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless, and highly toxic gas that can cause serious health effects or death within minutes, especially among children. Many accidents occur when children are left inside vehicles with running engines or poor ventilation, where CO gas can accumulate rapidly without being detected.

This project aims to provide an affordable and effective solution to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. GuardianAir uses an MQ7 CO gas sensor connected to a NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller to continuously monitor CO levels in real time. When the gas concentration exceeds the preset safety threshold, the system immediately activates a buzzer and LED warning while simultaneously sending an emergency alert to the user’s smartphone through Telegram via WiFi connectivity. Once the environment becomes safe again, an “All Clear” notification is automatically sent.

The prototype is low-cost, easy to operate, and suitable for vehicles, school buses, and enclosed spaces. GuardianAir also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). Future improvements may include GPS tracking, automatic engine shutdown, temperature monitoring, and GSM communication features.
In conclusion, GuardianAir demonstrates how simple IoT technology can be transformed into a practical life-saving innovation that protects children and raises public awareness about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.
