ABSTRACT

Dengue and dengue hemorrhagic fever are caused by a dengue virus, which are transmitted to humans through the bite of infected adult Aedes sp. mosquito.  Nowadays it is much preferable of using chemical such as abate to kill the larvae of Aedes sp.  because it is easier to be found and purchase.  Charica++ is the first biotechnology environment friendly made up from the extract of papaya seeds, lime peel and Patawali stem.  Charica++ is the product of killing mosquito larvae to prevent dengue cases from increasing and in order to have the healthy and comfortable environment. Papaya seeds, lime peel and Patawali stem which often goes as bi-products has been proved contain phytochemicals such as alkaloidssaponinsflavonoidstannins, polyphenols, essential oils and limonide. that can act as larvicide. The objectives of the invention to use papaya seed, lime peel and Patawali stem as natural, safe and eco-friendly larvicide, to investigate the effectiveness of the combination of papaya seeds and lime peel extract to kill the larvae of Aedes sp in various concentration and to reduce the high rate of dengue fever in Malaysia. Hence, in this study, an experiment was carried out in order to determine the effectiveness of the combination of papaya seeds and lime peel extracts as larvicidal in treating stage III Aedes sp. larvae.  There were four concentrations prepared and each treatment contains 15 larvaes in one litre of water.  The outcome of this study had shown that, larvaes with lowest mortality rate were recorded when the extract with concentration 1.0% was used and on the other hand the highest mortality rate was recorded when extracts at concentration of 4.0%. The concentration of 4.0% is proven to be efficient larvicidal besides being eco-friendly and safe. This product is economically practical and easily handled without causing any side effect to mankind and can be the alternative to reduce the high rate of dengue fever in Malaysia. The market for this product is large due to the increases of dengue cases in Malaysia.
