Microsleep among students can reduce concentration and affect learning performance during lessons and study sessions. To overcome this problem, the Anti Microsleep Detection and Alert System (AMDAS) was developed as a smart glasses system that can detect signs of drowsiness and provide immediate alerts to help students stay focused.
The improved AMDAS uses an Arduino Nano as the main controller, an MPU6050 Tilt Sensor to detect head movement, and an IR Eye Detection Sensor to monitor eye closure. When the system detects prolonged eye closure or a downward head tilt, the Arduino Nano processes the data and activates a vibration motor, LED, or optional buzzer to alert the user. The system is powered by a battery pack and assembled on an old glasses frame using jumper wires and glue to create a simple and affordable wearable device.
Testing showed that AMDAS was able to detect changes in eye movement and head position, allowing it to provide alerts when signs of microsleep were detected. By combining eye monitoring, motion detection, and alert technology, AMDAS provides a practical solution to help students maintain focus during learning. This invention supports SDG 4: Quality Education by improving student attention, encouraging better study habits, and creating a more effective learning environment.
