D-Lemon Insect Repellent Spray: A Sustainable Natural Insect Repellent Derived from Citrus medica
D-Lemon Insect Repellent Spray is an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic insecticides, developed using discarded Citrus medica (citron) peels. Citrus peel contains D-limonene, a natural bioactive compound with insect-repellent properties. Laboratory analysis by the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre using SPME-GC-MS confirmed that the peel contains 89.76% D-limonene. The innovation transforms citrus waste into a value-added product for controlling household pests such as ants and cockroaches. Free from synthetic pesticides, the spray supports environmental sustainability, waste valorisation, and the circular economy. Its affordable raw materials and growing demand for green products demonstrate strong commercial potential and future commercialization opportunities.
