PN821: ECO CENGKERANG

MUHAMMAD AMMAR ZAQUAN BIN ARMAN KOLEJ VOKASIONAL KOTA TINGGI

Eco Cengkerang is an innovative sustainable powder cleaner developed by converting commonly discarded food waste into a value-added product. The innovation addresses the growing problem of seashell, eggshell and kaffir lime peel waste from households, food premises and school communities. Seashells and eggshells, which are rich in calcium carbonate, are processed together with kaffir lime peel, baking soda and citric acid to formulate the powder cleaner. The production process involves collection, cleaning, drying, grinding, sieving and controlled mixing to produce a stable dry formulation. When activated with water, citric acid reacts with sodium bicarbonate to release carbon dioxide, creating an effervescent action that supports the cleaning process. The uniqueness of Eco Cengkerang lies in its Waste-to-Product approach, combining waste valorisation, chemistry and STEM innovation. The product promotes waste reduction, circular economy practices and green innovation while offering potential for school entrepreneurship and community-based commercialisation. Eco Cengkerang contributes to SDG 4, SDG 8, SDG 9, SDG 11, SDG 12 and SDG 13, with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production as its primary focus.
