This study introduces a Solar-Powered Cigarette Smoke Detection System designed to promote smoke-free environments in Malaysian primary schools. The prototype integrates MQ-2 smoke sensors, an Arduino microcontroller, and a buzzer alert mechanism, all powered by renewable solar energy. The system autonomously detects cigarette smoke and provides real-time auditory alerts, aligning with the National Strategic Plan for the Control of Tobacco and Smoking Products (2021–2030). Supporting SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), the project combines health innovation with sustainability while fostering STEM education and Industry 4.0 exposure. Testing in classrooms demonstrated reliable detection and minimal human intervention, ensuring safer learning environments. The novelty lies in merging clean energy with automated health monitoring, offering a practical and eco-friendly solution to address smoking-related challenges among youth. Future recommendations include integrating AI-driven analytics for smarter detection and predictive monitoring, enhancing the system’s effectiveness in safeguarding student health.
