As the demand for sustainable construction and effective skills training continues to grow, innovative materials that integrate environmental responsibility with hands-on learning are essential. Biomortar is an eco-friendly training mortar developed specifically for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to enhance masonry skills in a safe, cost-effective, and sustainable environment. This project addresses key challenges in conventional training practices, including high material costs, excessive wastage, and limited exposure to sustainable construction concepts. The objectives are to develop a sustainable mortar using recycled materials, provide a practical and reusable training medium, reduce material wastage, and promote circular economy awareness among students. The novelty of Biomortar lies in repositioning conventional mortar into a specialized educational tool. Formulated using recycled brick waste and water treatment sludge, Biomortar is designed for easy application and removal, making it suitable for repeated practical use. The development process includes material selection, formulation, prototyping, and application testing within TVET learning environments. Biomortar demonstrates strong commercialization potential as a standardized training kit integrated with instructional modules. Its scalability, low production complexity, and alignment with TVET curricula position it as a practical solution for widespread adoption. This innovation contributes to sustainable development by bridging environmental innovation and skills training, in line with SDG 4, 9, 11, and 12.
