Flood disasters are becoming increasingly frequent and severe due to climate change, rapid urbanization, inadequate drainage systems, and river sedimentation. These challenges often result in extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, businesses, and the environment while threatening public safety and economic stability. Therefore, this innovation aims to develop an Integrated Flood Mitigation Strategy that combines nature-based solutions, structural protection measures, and smart monitoring technologies to reduce flood risks effectively. The proposed system incorporates forest preservation and proper land-use planning to enhance natural water absorption, protective flood barriers to prevent river overflow, detention lakes and diversion tunnels for temporary water storage and controlled discharge, as well as sensor-based monitoring systems equipped with warning alarms and automated floodgates. The integrated framework enables a staged response process of monitoring, warning, diverting, storing, and safely discharging excess stormwater during heavy rainfall events. The innovation provides several benefits, including reduced flood exposure, improved early warning capabilities, enhanced protection of residential and commercial areas, better water management efficiency, and increased community resilience. In conclusion, the Integrated Flood Mitigation Strategy demonstrates strong potential as a sustainable and scalable solution for flood risk reduction, supporting safer communities and more resilient environmental management.
