Phonics in Motion+ (PIM+) is an interactive, student-centred learning application designed to transform phonics instruction into an enjoyable experience that integrates sound, movement, and play. Developed within the Teaching English for Young Learners (TEYL) course, PIM+ enables children to explore English phonemes independently through engaging, game-based activities. Each phoneme is introduced through lively animations, clear pronunciation models, and corresponding physical movements. For example, learners may slither like a snake while producing the /s/ sound or bounce like a ball while practising the /b/ sound. Grounded in Total Physical Response (TPR) and multisensory learning principles, the application encourages children to experience language actively through physical movement, visual stimulation, and auditory feedback. It also incorporates motion-detection technology, immediate feedback, and a reward system through which learners earn stars and badges as they progress. The primary objective of PIM+ is to promote active and engaging phonics learning while improving learners’ phoneme recognition, pronunciation, sound retention, confidence, and motivation. By combining physical play with digital learning, PIM+ provides an inclusive, stimulating, and child-friendly learning environment that supports early literacy development and encourages independent learning among young learners.
