EcoHero: Rise of Renewal is an educational digital game developed to strengthen environmental awareness among primary school students. Environmental issues such as deforestation, water pollution, and plastic waste continue to threaten ecosystems, while many young learners still have limited understanding of their responsibility to protect the environment. The project introduces a game-based learning approach that combines environmental education with interactive adventure gameplay. EcoHero was developed using PictoBlox through block-based coding and features colourful pixel-style graphics, story-based missions, pollution monsters, scoring, and level progression. The game was implemented and tested with 30 primary school students through gameplay sessions, observation, and simple pre-test and post-test assessments. The average score increased from 3.0 in the pre-test to 4.3 in the post-test, representing an improvement of 1.3 points or 43.3%. Students also showed positive engagement during gameplay and improved understanding of environmental issues. These findings indicate that EcoHero can serve as an engaging digital teaching and learning tool that supports environmental education, 21st-century learning, and awareness of Sustainable Development Goals 14 and 15.
