ABSTRACT CHITIZ

Chitin is a nitrogen-containing natural polysaccharide and the second most abundant biopolymer on Earth after cellulose. This innovation introduces a chitin-based fertilizer formulated using shrimp shell which is nutrient chitin as the main component, combined with fermented washed rice water, molasses , banana peel, eggshell powder and seaweed extract . Chitin, naturally found in crustacean exoskeletons, plays an important role in improving soil health and supporting plant growth. In soil, chitin is broken down by chitinolytic microorganisms through the action of chitinase enzymes, producing water-soluble compounds such as N-acetylglucosamine. These compounds act as a slow-release source of nitrogen and carbon that can be absorbed by plant roots. Furthermore, chitin enhances plant immune responses, stimulates beneficial soil microorganisms, and helps suppress soil-borne pests. The addition of organic waste ingredients further enriches nutrients and promotes microbial activity. Overall, this chitin-based fertilizer offers an innovative and environmentally friendly solution for sustainable agriculture supporting the United Nations(UN) sustainable development goals(SDG).
