SAKSI: A Recurrence-Detecting Wearable and Community Guardian Network for Safe Passage to and from Learning
Women and children carry most of this risk — women because they are followed most often, children because they are least able to recognise it or tell anyone. The journey to and from learning is where both are most exposed.
The terrifying urgency of safety is the threat of stalkers. They learn her route, her timings, and the days she walks alone. That knowledge is what makes an abduction or an assault possible: the surveillance is the preparation.
Malaysian law criminalises stalking only when harassment is repeated on at least two occasions (Penal Code s.507A, 2023) — yet no student owns an instrument that records repetition, and existing safety apps are reactive, requiring the victim to already know she is in danger.
SAKSI is a rear-facing wearable camera with infrared night capability and a verified community response network. It computes appearance embeddings on-device and flags the reappearance of the same unidentified person across independent contexts — evidence of repetition without identifying anyone. Anonymised, this data maps which routes are unsafe, letting schools place lighting and patrols where students actually walk. SAKSI addresses SDG 4.a and 4.5 by treating safe passage as a precondition of equal educational access.
