ABSTRACT
Jawi Cube Challenge is an innovative game-based learning tool designed to enhance Jawi literacy among Year 1 to Year 3 pupils through an interactive, engaging and student-centred approach. The innovation consists of five Jawi cubes and fifty picture cards organised into three progressive levels: Rookie, Explorer and Master. Pupils identify pictures, locate the corresponding Jawi letters on the cubes and arrange them to form the correct Jawi words.
The project was developed to address common challenges in Jawi learning, including difficulties in letter recognition, spelling, reading fluency, vocabulary acquisition and low motivation towards conventional learning methods. By incorporating gamification elements such as levels, scoring and challenges, Jawi Cube Challenge transforms Jawi learning into a fun and meaningful experience.
Beyond improving reading and spelling skills, the innovation encourages collaboration, communication, critical thinking and problem-solving, in line with 21st Century Learning (PAK21) principles. Its portable design, affordability and ease of use make it suitable for primary schools, remedial programmes, KAFA institutions and home learning environments.
Jawi Cube Challenge aims to strengthen pupils’ mastery of Jawi while preserving and promoting Jawi as an important part of Malaysia’s linguistic and cultural heritage.
