ASTROVIA: POME-GRID is an innovative circular-economy solution developed to address environmental pollution and resource wastage associated with Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME), a major by-product of the palm oil industry. POME contains a high organic load and requires effective management to minimise its environmental impact. At the same time, its organic content provides significant potential for conversion into renewable energy, particularly biogas. POME-GRID integrates POME-based biogas production, solar energy, and smart technology into an integrated renewable energy system. Through anaerobic digestion, POME can be converted into biogas, which can subsequently be utilised as an energy source. Solar energy is incorporated as a complementary renewable source to enhance the sustainability and reliability of the system. The integration of smart monitoring technology further enables key system parameters to be monitored systematically, supporting efficient energy management and operation. The innovation demonstrates the potential of transforming an industrial waste stream into a valuable energy resource while promoting sustainable waste management and reducing dependence on conventional fossil-fuel-based energy. POME-GRID also introduces a practical application of the circular economy, where waste is not merely disposed of but converted into a useful resource. Overall, ASTROVIA: POME-GRID offers a sustainable and technology-driven approach that connects waste management, renewable energy, smart technology, and environmental sustainability. The innovation has the potential to contribute towards cleaner energy generation, improved POME utilisation, and the development of a low-carbon and more sustainable future.
