Individuals with hearing impairments often face communication barriers in their daily lives due to the limited understanding of sign language among the general public. This situation can lead to misunderstanding, difficulty accessing essential services, limited social interaction and reduced participation in societyProblem Statement: Individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing often face communication barriers because many members of the public do not understand sign language. This can result in misunderstanding, social isolation and difficulties accessing education, healthcare and public services. Objective: This project aims to develop a mobile application that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Computer Vision and Speech Recognition to translate sign language into text or speech in real time. It also supports translation from text or speech into sign language. Target User: The application is designed for individuals with hearing impairments, family members, teachers, healthcare workers, public service personnel, students and the general public. Features/Impact: Key features include real-time sign-to-text translation, speech-to-text, text-to-sign, text-to-speech, sign language animation and translation history. The application provides a user-friendly platform that can reduce communication barriers, improve accessibility, strengthen social interaction and promote independence. Multilingual support also provides opportunities for wider use. Conclusion: The Sign Language Translator App combines AI and communication technologies to create an accessible two-way communication solution. It has the potential to promote inclusion, improve understanding and empower individuals with hearing impairments towards a more connected and inclusive society for all.
