PaperCane is an innovative, eco-friendly paper made from sugarcane bagasse, the fibrous residue left after extracting sugarcane juice. Although bagasse makes up 30–40% of harvested sugarcane, it is often discarded or burned, contributing to environmental pollution and resource waste. This project transforms bagasse into a sustainable alternative to conventional wood-pulp paper, helping reduce deforestation and the demand for natural forest resources. Using minimal chemical processing, the bagasse fibres are converted into biodegradable paper with a lower carbon footprint, reduced water consumption, and less waste generation than traditional paper production. By repurposing an abundant agricultural by-product, PaperCane supports the principles of a circular economy, turning waste into a valuable resource while reducing environmental impact. The project demonstrates how renewable materials can replace conventional paper, promoting sustainable production and consumption. PaperCane offers a practical and environmentally responsible solution that contributes to waste reduction, resource conservation, and a greener, more sustainable future.
