Aqua Buddy is a simple, low-cost and eco-friendly water filtration project developed by students using a recycled plastic bottle, cotton, sand and pebbles. The project demonstrates how easily available and discarded materials can be creatively reused to develop a basic water filtration model. The different layers of cotton, sand and pebbles work together to reduce visible dirt, suspended particles and impurities in water, allowing students to understand the basic principles of filtration through hands-on STEM learning. Aqua Buddy encourages students to develop creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving skills and environmental awareness while promoting the importance of recycling and responsible use of resources. This innovation supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean Water and Sanitation by creating awareness about water filtration and the importance of clean water, and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production by promoting the reuse of plastic bottles and other waste materials. Aqua Buddy demonstrates that simple materials and creative thinking can be combined to create a meaningful solution for environmental sustainability.
