Biodegradable Plastic – An Eco-Friendly Alternative investigates the production of eco-friendly plastic from cornstarch, water, vinegar, and glycerin. The ingredients were mixed, heated to form a gel-like polymer mixture, and dried to produce flexible bioplastic sheets. Prototype products such as packaging sheets, a flower vase, a desk organizer, and seed-embedded plastic were successfully created. Strength and soil-decomposition observations were conducted to compare the bioplastic with conventional plastic. The bioplastic began breaking down in soil within days, whereas normal plastic did not, indicating superior environmental performance. The project demonstrates a low-cost, classroom-friendly approach to teaching biodegradation, polymers, and environmental sustainability while offering a practical alternative to conventional plastics.
